Made by Hand. Shared by Heart.

Behind every handmade item, every blog post, and every podcast episode is one determined human with opposable thumbs... and two quirky cats convinced they're stars of the show.

Welcome back to another issue of The Scratching Post Press, where the sewing machine hums, the camera is never far away, and Mika and Koji continue their tireless campaign to supervise without contributing anything that could reasonably be called labor.
July has been wonderfully busy. New products have found their way into the shop, new stories have appeared on The Cat Whisperer Blog, and somewhere between editing photos and packing orders I decided it wasn't enough to write every week... I wanted to read those stories aloud as well.

The Editor Has Something To Say
|
One thing has been on my mind this month: we've become so used to bargain prices that we've forgotten what it really takes to create something by hand. Handmade/handcrafted isn't produced by anonymous factories. For me (and many others), It's one person, one workspace (like a bedroom in my home) one project at a time. Well, mostly. Sometimes I get off on tangents and leave a trail of chaos - I mean projects - behind me
That realization inspired my newest blog and podcast episode, 'The True Cost of Handmade.' It's not about guilt. It's about appreciation. Behind every handmade pouch, spa cloth, tote bag, or stitched gift is time, experience, patience, and a maker who chose quality over shortcuts.
Creating doesn't stop with products. Each week also brings a blog post, image sleuthing, social media, website updates, and now a podcast episode. It's a busy life, but it's a creative one, and I wouldn't trade it.

The Cat Whisperer Blog Podcast has officially settled into its weekly rhythm on YouTube.
Each episode is an audio presentation of a selected Cat Whisperer Blog article, making it easy to enjoy the stories while driving, knitting, walking, gardening, or relaxing with your favorite feline nearby.
Every week I'll feature another story from the blog archive, giving older favorites a second life and making them available wherever your ears happen to be, even when your eyes are busy.

This month's reminder is simple: handmade is never just the finished item. It's selecting fabrics, matching colors, cutting, sewing, dealing with graphics manipulating, writing descriptions, answering customer questions, packing carefully, and hoping the cats don't decide the shipping supplies make excellent toys.
Thank you for supporting independent makers. Every purchase encourages another day of creating.

Management Meeting Minutes
• Mika inspected every fabric choice and declared one pile acceptable for sitting. • Koji performed perimeter security after spotting a suspicious bird outside the studio window. • Both supervisors approved an expanded nap schedule. • Human annual review: 'Generally satisfactory. Requires more treat distribution.'
|
|
|
|
|
Recent highlights: • New Cat Whisperer Blog posts every week. • Weekly episodes of The Cat Whisperer Blog Podcast on YouTube. • Fresh handmade creations appearing regularly in the Etsy shop: new mugs and totes • Daily reminders that creativity is rarely tidy, but it is always worthwhile.
|
|
• So many ideas, so little time...

May your coffee stay warm, your thread refuse to knot, and your cats choose the chair beside you instead of the project you're trying to finish.

Thank you for spending a little of your month with us. Whether you read the blog, listen to the podcast, browse the website, or support my handmade work, I truly appreciate every visit.

Every cat owner begins with the same innocent belief: you buy a litter box, pour in the litter, scoop it once or twice a day, and life is good. Then one particular cat comes along and decides the manufacturer's design specifications are merely suggestions. Meet Koji. Koji is a handsome black cat with a tiny white patch on his chest …
