Spring Forward? The Cats Were Already There

Every year humans do this bizarre little ritual where they collectively decide that time itself needs to be “adjusted.”

One Sunday you wake up and suddenly it’s not the time it was yesterday. People shuffle around half-asleep, complaining about being tired, late, confused, or in desperate need of coffee or some semblance of a brain stimulant.

Meanwhile, every cat in the house is sitting there like:

“You did what now?”

Let’s be clear about something. Cats do not recognize Daylight Saving Time. Cats recognize Breakfast Time, Second Breakfast Time, Lunch (Optional but Recommended), Dinner Time, and Why Haven’t You Fed Me Yet Time.

These times are extremely precise and are monitored by a highly sophisticated internal feline chronometer.

It cannot be fooled.

So when humans “spring forward,” cats are left watching the chaos unfold.

You stumble into the kitchen, bleary-eyed, mumbling something about losing an hour.

Your cat stares.

Because from their perspective, nothing has changed except the fact that you are now one hour late with breakfast.

This is unacceptable.

The Great Window Season Has Begun

While humans argue about clocks, the cats have moved on to much more important matters.

Window Season.

If you live somewhere that’s starting to warm up right now—say, hypothetically, somewhere like Albuquerque where winter apparently decided to pack up early—then you already know what happens next.

The windows open.
The screens go down.

And suddenly the house becomes the greatest reality show cats have ever seen.

Outside there are:
– Birds returning from wherever birds go when they abandon us for winter
– Mysterious neighborhood smells
– Rustling bushes that absolutely contain something interesting
– Distant dogs making fools of themselves

Your cat will sit at that window for hours, absorbing it all like a tiny furry surveillance officer.

The nose twitches.
The ears swivel.
The tail flicks with deep professional interest.

This is what scientists call Feline Environmental Monitoring.

You might call it “staring out the window.”

The Smell Channel Is Back Online

Humans think opening a window is about “fresh air.”

Cats know better.

It’s about smells.

Spring smells are wildly complicated.

Somewhere out there:
– a bird has committed an insult
– another cat has walked by and left a message
– someone is grilling something that should clearly belong to the cat
– a suspicious leaf has moved

Your cat processes all of this through the ancient and powerful technology known as The Nose.

And once the window opens, they are not leaving that post.

Cancel their meetings.
Cancel your meetings too.

Meanwhile, Humans Are Still Mad About the Clock

Every year humans argue about whether Daylight Saving Time should exist.

Some want to keep it.
Some want to abolish it.
Some want to move to Arizona.

Cats, however, have already solved this problem.

Their time system is simple:

  1. If the sun is up, it’s time to look out the window.
  2. If the sun is down, it’s time to sprint through the hallway at 2:17 AM.
  3. If the human is asleep, it’s time to stand on their chest and scream.
  4. If the food bowl is empty, civilization has collapsed.

Elegant. Efficient. Impossible to manipulate with legislation.

A Message From Your Cat

If your cat could address the Daylight Saving debate, the statement would likely read as follows:

“You may adjust the clocks all you want.
Breakfast will still be expected at the correct time.”

Failure to comply will result in:
– Loud commentary
– Walking across your keyboard
– Sudden gravity experiments involving objects on your desk

You’ve been warned.

Final Thoughts From the Window Patrol

Spring is coming.
The birds are back.
The windows are open.

And the cats are once again stationed at their observation posts, judging the world.

The clocks may change.
The humans may complain.

But the cats remain steady in their mission:

Watch everything.
Miss nothing.
Demand snacks.

And if you’re late with breakfast because of some silly human time adjustment…

Well.

Your cat noticed.

They always do.
