My Cats Have No Idea the World Is on Fire

And apparently they don’t really care.

Every morning I wake up, check the news for approximately twelve seconds, and immediately regret having eyeballs.

Something somewhere is exploding.
The economy is doing interpretive dance again.
Everyone online is yelling.
My grocery bill now qualifies as a luxury experience.

And through all of this?

My cats remain deeply committed to their personal priorities.

Koji still appears beside my face at dawn like a tiny furry sleep paralysis demon silently requesting breakfast.

Mika still treats random household objects like they personally insulted her.

Neither of them has the slightest concern about inflation, global instability, or whether humanity is emotionally equipped to survive group texts.

Honestly, I envy them.

The Cats Have Chosen Peace

Cats operate on an incredibly simple system:

  • Is there food?
  • Is there a warm spot?
  • Is someone available to provide attention on demand?
  • Can I sprint through the hallway at 3 AM for absolutely no reason?

If the answer is yes, life is acceptable.

Meanwhile humans are over here stress-refreshing headlines while forgetting to drink water.

Living with cats has forced me to notice something important: they pull you back into reality.

Not internet reality.
Actual reality.

The kind where:

  • sunlight comes through the window
  • coffee still smells good
  • a warm cat curls up beside you
  • and for five whole minutes, your brain finally unclenches

Mika: CEO of Silent Judgment

Mika has perfected the art of emotionally communicating disappointment without making a sound.

She doesn’t scream for food.

No. That would require effort.

Instead, she simply materializes nearby and stares directly into my soul until I remember my responsibilities as Staff.

Sometimes I’ll be spiraling over something completely outside my control, and there she is: sitting calmly in a blanket nest like a tiny furry philosopher who also enjoys treats.

And honestly?

It helps.

Because cats don’t care about productivity. They care about presence.

They don’t care how many tabs you have open in your browser or whether you answered that email.

They care that you sat down for five minutes and existed in the same room with them.

That’s it.

That’s the assignment.

Koji: Tiny Sith Lord of Household Chaos

Koji, meanwhile, is not here to comfort anyone.

Koji is a sleek black void powered entirely by chaos, curiosity, and what I can only assume is dark matter.

He appears silently out of nowhere.

He stares into corners that contain absolutely nothing.

He launches himself through the house at impossible speeds like he just sensed a disturbance in the Force.

At least once a day, he does something that makes me stop doomscrolling purely because I need to ask:

“Sir. What exactly are your intentions?”

And honestly?

That interruption helps.

Because it’s hard to spiral about the state of the world while your tiny Sith cat is dramatically attacking a receipt on the floor like it personally betrayed him.

The Tiny Rituals That Keep Us Grounded

One thing cats do exceptionally well is routine.

They know:

  • when breakfast happens
  • where the good blankets are
  • which window gets the best afternoon sun
  • and exactly what time you’re supposed to stop working and pay attention to them

Those tiny daily rituals matter more than we give them credit for.

Feeding them.
Playing with them.
Sitting quietly while they nap nearby.

These little moments interrupt the nonstop chaos for a while.

And maybe that’s why so many of us cling so tightly to our pets during difficult seasons of life.

Not because they magically fix things.

But because they remind us there’s still softness here.

Still warmth.
Still comfort.
Still tiny ridiculous creatures demanding snacks like the world’s least qualified emotional support specialists.

Final Thoughts From the Cat Staff

The world may, in fact, be on fire.

But Mika still wants her blanket nest.

And Koji still serves the dark side exclusively.

Somehow, that feels reassuring.

Maybe we don’t need to solve everything today.

Maybe today it’s enough to:

  • drink some water
  • pet the cats
  • laugh at their nonsense
  • and survive the day together

The cats, as always, seem to think that’s plenty.

May your coffee stay warm and your cats only mildly chaotic this week.

Ciao,
