Observations From the Window: We Repeat, Humans Are NOT OK

April Dispatch from the Feline Overlords: Humans Are Not Okay

If you’ve been paying attention (and let’s be honest, my cats always are), something is… off.

The humans are louder.
More reactive.
Deeply committed to being right—whether they are or not.

Mika has taken to sitting in the window, silently judging the neighborhood like a tiny, furry philosopher. Koji, on the other hand, has decided that chaos is the correct response and now knocks things off tables with even more conviction than usual.

Honestly? They might be onto something.

Because if April has proven anything, it’s that humans are exhausting themselves arguing, posturing, and doubling down—while somehow becoming less willing to actually listen.

The “I’m Right” Syndrome (A Human Epidemic)

Cats don’t argue facts.
They don’t hold press conferences.
They don’t rewrite reality mid-sentence.

If Mika misses a jump, she doesn’t insist the floor moved. She recalibrates… and then pretends it never happened.

Humans? Not so much.

There’s this fascinating phenomenon right now where people will:

  • cling to their version of reality like it’s a favorite blanket
  • ignore anything that challenges it
  • and then get louder when questioned

Koji tried this once. He insisted the closed treat jar was “basically open.”

It wasn’t.
He lost.

Lesson not learned.

Selective Hearing Is Apparently a Lifestyle Choice

Cats hear everything.
The crinkle of a bag.
A can opening three rooms away.
The faint whisper of “vet.”

Humans, meanwhile, have mastered the art of hearing only what they want to hear.

You can show them facts, context, nuance—and they’ll just… blink at you like you’ve spoken in interpretive dance.

Mika would never.

If there’s new information, she processes it immediately—usually by adjusting her strategy to get more snacks.

Efficient. Effective. Slightly manipulative. Respectable.

Chaos, Confusion, and the Confidence to Be Wrong

There’s also this strange confidence happening right now.

Not the good kind.
Not the “I’ve done my homework” kind.

More like:
“I skimmed something, misunderstood it, and now I’m going to defend it with my entire personality.”

Koji embodies this energy when he attacks invisible enemies at 3 a.m.

Is there anything there? No.
Will he commit fully anyway? Absolutely.

At least he’s honest about being ridiculous.

Meanwhile, the World Keeps Spinning

Big things are happening. Serious things. The kind of things that should make people pause, think, and maybe—just maybe—approach conversations with a little humility.

And yet…

We’ve got storytelling where there should be clarity.
Deflection where there should be accountability.
Noise where there should be substance.

Mika’s take? Sit back, observe, conserve energy.

Koji’s take? Scream into the void and then take a nap.

Both are arguably healthier than doom-scrolling.

So What Would Cats Do?

Let’s be real—cats are not perfect (don’t tell them I said that).

But they do have a few things figured out:

  • They don’t waste energy arguing with walls
  • They don’t pretend nonsense makes sense
  • They adjust when reality doesn’t match expectations
  • And when things get overwhelming… they disengage

There’s something to that.

Final Thoughts from the Editor (That’s Me… Under Feline Supervision)

This month feels like a lot.
For everyone.

But if Mika and Koji have taught me anything, it’s this:

You don’t have to match chaos with chaos.
You don’t have to argue with every loud voice.
And you definitely don’t have to pretend nonsense is reasonable.

Sometimes the smartest move is to:
observe carefully,
act intentionally,
and protect your peace like a cat guards its favorite sunny spot.

Ciao,

The snarkiest cat…
